Consider this a prediction of Fall 2023 fashion trends, namely 70’s chic. While browsing Pinterest, looking at streetstyle, and NYFW I have a suspicion that 70’s inspired outfits are in for a big comeback. Denim on denim, faux fur, earth tones, patterns, heeled Mary Janes are taking over my feed and I’m not mad about it! Let’s do a roundup and analyze those 70’s elements that make these outfits so trendy.

Outerwear:
The trends I’m picking up on for outerwear are trench coats, denim jackets, leather jackets especially brown and muted cherry, faux fur coats. Less popular but similar jackets are corduroy jackets and denim trench coats. Most of these styles are generally loose-fitting and not cropped, avoid a cropped, ultra-structured jacket for these looks.

Shoes:
Shoe trends I’ve noticed are heeled Mary Janes, not in a Doc Martens type way but more inspired by a Daisy Jones type. Think Mary Janes, brown, black or dark cherry, one strap, with kitten heels. If you struggle with walking in heels, remember the thicker the heel, the easier it is to walk in. Start with chunky heels and move on to thinner ones as your body adjusts.
Riding boots. I’ve noticed a lot of looks include tall boots. Combining shorter skirts with tall boots creates clean lines. Most if not all the tall boots I’ve seen are chestnut colored. Similarly, cowboy boots are still having their moment. I personally avoid round-toe cowboy boots.
Also, Taylor Swift has been seen recently sporting tall, riding style boots. If that t isn’t a sign they’re coming back, I don’t know what is.
UGG Tasman slippers were very popular last winter and UGG’s will always be in style. They’re mostly paired with leggings or cuffed mom jeans for those relaxed styles.

Tops:
Finding tops that fit well and look good has always been a struggle for me. I’d prefer to stick with funky outerwear and wear a comfortable, painfully boring top underneath. But I’m slowly realizing that won’t cut it. I’ve picked up on the trend of tops that are boring in one way but have a unique element, I’ll explain.
For example, if wearing a sweater vest, it should be an interesting pattern. If wearing a plain black tank, it needs to fit well and dressed up with eye-drawing accessories. This is where the outerwear comes in, a plain basic tee or tank paired with a dark cherry leather jacket and gold accented belt and mini skirt is an adorable outfit, but very sustainable because all elements can be used and reused and different seasons.
Thick sweaters and babydoll tanks, asymmetrical sweaters, tops with a front button or tie front with half unbuttoned are also super popular and able to be used in other seasons.
Bottoms:
Flare jeans. Flare jeans. Flare jeans. Do I need to say it again? They flatter almost every body-type and are super versatile. They’re having a moment right now, and I’m not mad about it. For my shorter gals, you can hide a thick heel under the flares to elongate the legs. Flare jeans also look amazing with a heeled boot, chunky clogs, and Mary Janes.
Mini skirts with tights work with all of the previous shoes I mentioned. Mini skirts, tights, basic top, unique jacket, and cute shoes is a super easy formula to create an effortlessly glamorous outfit.
Don’t rush to throw out those skinny jeans, they can look great with UGG’s or tall boots, flare’s is a beloved trend, but a good pair of skinny jeans is a staple.
Denim skirts, we’ve already mentioned mini skirts, but long denim skirts have been having a moment. Dark wash denim skirts with tall boots specifically have been very popular. Personally, I stay away from that trend being a shorter gal it can end up looking clunky. If you are a shorter woman and wear this outfit focus on elongating the body.
