Admittedly, I prefer movies to TV shows. It seems like it’s easier to find a clean movie than it is to find a clean TV show. I’ve started to watch so many different series only to get halfway through a season and the graphicness changes radically.
Television has become increasingly brave with featuring graphic sex scenes, for example Euphoria and Bridgerton. It would be best to swear off TV altogether, but we still have a couple of options for good, clean television. Here’s my favorites:
1. Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time (OUAT) is a story about fairytales with a modern spin. After the Evil Queen sends a curse through the Enchanted Forest, fairytale characters, who have lost their memories, are trapped in the real world.
The plot might seem childish, but the retellings of these fairytales have a unique and modern spin. There’s a lot of subplots including Neverland, Wonderland, Oz, and even some Disney villains thrown in. This show does a great job of keeping you entertained and presenting gripping cliffhangers.

This show was really popular from 2011-2018. I watched it up until a point, but I’ve started rewatching it again. Though I’m not through the entire series, it has been pretty mild in terms of language and sex thus far. There have been no explicit sex scenes, and through the 3 seasons I’ve re-watched recently only one scene that could be interpreted as “sexy.”
OUAT has seven seasons and is produced by ABC. It’s currently available on Disney+
2. Anne with an E

Anne with an E is a retelling of Anne of Greene Gables. The series has 3 seasons and is produced by Netflix. As with most remakes, this show garners a lot of mixed reviews.
If you’re unfamiliar, Anne of Green Gables is about an elderly sister and brother who adopt an orphan boy as a farmhand. When a girl, Anne, is sent instead of a boy, she navigates adjusting to life on the farm and embracing womanhood. Anne with an E is a period piece and features a lot of beautiful visuals and music.
Personally, I absolutely loved this show and was obsessed with it. However, the pure romance and slow-burn between Anne and Gilbert is just too much for my heart to handle for another rewatch. Beyond the romance, I enjoyed watching Anne’s relationship with her adopted family change as they started to truly view her as their own.
The show does a beautiful job of portraying the love between friends and the struggles of fitting in.

If you loved the original TV series and the books, I’m sure this series is pale in comparison. It’s worth mentioning that there are episodes in which forced agendas are very apparent. While there are no explicit scenes, topics of sexuality and sexual abuse do come up sporadically throughout the series.
I wish there were more shows to add to this list. Every time I thought of another show that I liked I realized there was more sexual content than I had thought. Even if it’s “just joking” there are jokes that I don’t really want or need to hear. There are a few TV shows that are clean that I thought of such as Cedar Cove and When Calls the Heart, but they really weren’t my favorite and I wanted to stick with shows I would actually recommend. These shows are ones that I truly enjoy beyond just the fact that they’re clean.
As I mentioned above, I’m usually more of a movie person because it’s easier to fast-forward a scene then fast-forward 90% of a TV show. I’ve been known to have to problem putting on animated movies from my childhood as well. My standards are my own, so it’s important to decide if these shows are up to yours.
